| | | that has everything to do with clinton.if someone else jumps off a cliff are you going to do it to?no,if your smart you will stop and think about what the consiquences are before you jump.rosemary hasn`t thought past her nose because, she doesn`t plan on being in clinton for the next 20 years to see what the consequences of her actions are.therefor she doesn`t care what they are.all they have done is to create a higher poverty level in clinton and are running the hard working, community involved, tax paying people out of clinton because they have had enough of her tax and spend attitude and want to get away from the high taxes being imposed on them without a voice in there own government.(they are tired of the dictatorship in clinton). | 9/26/2009 4:10:29 PM |

| | | aug2004:
the city of clinton plans to sell $7.75 million in general obligation bonds to be repaid during a 20-year period. a portion of those payments will be balloon payments, ward 4 alderman phil fisher said.
broken down, they look like this:
# year 1 $387,500
# year 2 $472,500
# year 3 $513,500
# year 4 $626,750
# years 5-16 $664,500
# years 17-20 $720,000 | 9/26/2009 7:23:06 AM |
| | | don`t look now lakeside but clinton`s share of collected sales tax is down 6.3% in the first 2 months of the fiscal year. so you see lakeside, that is the problem with too much debt and in mayor debt`s case balloon bonds. because in the down years the decision becomes either cuts to services or a tax increase *because* the long term debt *must* be serviced. she has recklessly locked taxpayers into annual debt service costs that hamstring the budget. so either way taxpayers get left holding the bag. cuts or tax increases. and now foolishly she wants to take on even more long term debt. meanwhile our annual population growth has slowed to a crawl of 1.5% annually. yes we don`t want to become a tumor on the side of jackson but outrageous spending of money we don`t have and long term debt borrowing to pay for it all isn`t the answer. tell you what lakeside in your personal life go real deep into debt since you think it works. come back and tell us in a year how it worked out. | 9/26/2009 5:42:19 AM |
| | | are you against packard being here? | 9/25/2009 7:00:48 AM |
| | the mayor doesn`t know how to tell the truth | the mayor doesn`t know how to tell the truth.she has been caught up in so many lies it`s not funny.example she stated in an open meeting when someone asked to allow the people of clinton the right to vote on bond issues and she stated that it would cost 30k to allow a vote and that it would be a waist of tax dollars to allow them the right to vote.there was an agenda sheet emailed to me from a meeting just prior to the election there was a contract between the city of clinton and hinds county election commission for a little over 8k for the use of the voting machines, training for pole workers, rent for voting areas all for three elections.she flat out lied to the public and has no remorse.she has lied about cutting spending and has gone to several conventions at the hotel and casinos on the coast.she is still throwing our tax dollar`s at the mississippi municipal league.you talk about a waist of money.those people are taking more of our rights away every year and are lobbing for higher taxes.don`t forget the millions of dollars in advalorum tax breaks the mayor and board have given to packard over the next 20 years.this mayor and board and past boards have not been resposible with our tax dollars at all.yes i am involved.there is much more most people don`t know.ps.this new library will cost more than the 8 million in bonds, alot more. | 9/24/2009 7:01:54 PM |
| lakeside res | to former coach | sorry coach, but my current plans or to stay in clinton. as for getting a hobby or getting involved. i already am involved more than you now and might even be more involved than you. i like this city and want to see it progress and not become and extension of jackson. as for you passing in information about the misuse of our tax money only some of what is posted here is true. the first example would be the delphi taxes which someone else has already pointed out they have to be paid for this year. another example was someone kept saying the city lost $1 million dollars in sales tax revenue alone and that is not truthful. people are posting stories from the clinton news on here and then twisting them to say what they want. our city leaders have made some awful decisions such as $8 million on a library and the mayor getting a pay raise a few years back, but they have made some good decisions too. i only challenge people to do something instead of complaining on this message board because they have had two election cycles to do something about it and most of the same people are in office. it just doesn`t make sense if the majority of the people are feed up with the current leaders that they keep getting re-elected. last, but not least. by all means let`s arrange somewhere for us to meet and talk about things. i`m not looking for a fight if that`s what you are thinking. i`d just like to see why some people think the way they do and i bet my ideas and yours for the city aren`t too far apart. | 9/24/2009 10:39:54 AM |
| | | if the mayor knew about the closing 2 years ago of a major employer, why did she continue the reckless spending and borrowing? many families will not be able to absorb the higher property taxes. | 9/24/2009 10:31:46 AM |
| | | if the mayor knew about the closing 2 years ago (apparently before the employees knew), then why didn`t she find a new tenant. she had 2 years... | 9/24/2009 10:28:23 AM |
| | | the 120,000 in property taxes to the city does not include the hundreds of thousands in school taxes paid by delphi to the school district | 9/24/2009 10:27:08 AM |
| | | i`m sure they did budget for the property taxes, because delphi will have to pay them. | 9/24/2009 8:30:02 AM |
| former coach | another lakeside comment.... | lakeside, you are always threating people, and want to "meet them". this could be arranged. you are always telling people to "run for office" and quit posting on this board. why don`t you get a hobby or start doing something useful and why don`t you quit posting on this site. you could start your own site and let everyone who thinks like you get on it and complain about everyone else. we here are passing information about the misuse of tax monies by our city government. we don`t need, and certainly don`t want, you constantly harping about things you don`t like about us. | 9/24/2009 6:37:18 AM |
| | from todays clinton news... | clinton delphi closes. brookhaven delphi stays open.
"clinton will be hurt by lost tax revenue from the plant and the sales tax its workers dropped at local businesses.
aultman couldn`t detail the impact on sales tax revenue, but said delphi pays $120,000 annually in property taxes."
even though this has been coming down the road for a year, i`ll bet the city included the delphi taxes in their new budget figures. | 9/24/2009 6:30:41 AM |
| | another person that doesn`t read this sight | who are you going to ask,the mayor?you will get the answer you want. | 9/21/2009 7:07:33 PM |
| lakeside res | firetruck | i honestly don`t think you have a clue about the numbers on the new fire truck. you may be right, but i doubt it. i`ll ask someone in the know whom i trust and let you know what they say. | 9/21/2009 6:21:35 PM |
| lakeside res | | "as for you lakeside i`ve read more of your stuff than i can stomach. ignorant is actually being kind"......your real problem is you know i`m mostly right and hardly anyone agrees with you. like i said let`s meet some where and you can tell me just ignorant i am to my face. if you are so d@m right then do something about once and for all instead of complaining on a board that no one reads. send your thoughts to the clinton news or the cl. call 3 on your side or channel 16s whose accountable line. bet you want do it. | 9/21/2009 6:17:43 PM |

| | | as for you lakeside i`ve read more of your stuff than i can stomach. ignorant is actually being kind. | 9/21/2009 2:06:52 PM |
| | | don`t matter which budget year ..... it involves a balloon payment at the end and that makes the deal *sweet*. if mayor debt can obligate taxpayers to an increase of another 20-30% in long term debt by the end of this term then i`m sure all will agree that hers was a successful reign of reckless borrowing! | 9/21/2009 2:05:58 PM |
| lakeside res | re: firetruck | hey genius the money for the fire truck came from last year`s budget. the mayor was talking about no major purchases for this year`s budget. you probably know this fact, but are willing to distort the truth just to make yourself feel better. | 9/21/2009 1:21:00 PM |
| lakeside res | re: about lakeside | so you think i`m ignorant and have no clue how things work. why don`t we just meet in person and you can tell me how ignorant face to face. anyway your post isn`t close to the truth. i don`t support the mayor right down the line by no means. some of things the city spends money on is a waste and some of things they should spend money, but don`t is a crying shame. maybe you should read everything i post instead of being selective in your reading. | 9/21/2009 1:16:46 PM |
| | | oh, wait a minute a lease-purchase agreement makes perfect sense in the mind of mayor debt. why? because always waiting at the end of those agreements is ..... wait for it ..... here it comes ..... a massive final balloon payment! they don`t call her the balloon bond bimbo for nothing. | 9/21/2009 7:53:23 AM |
| | mayor lied again? | on sept 3, the mayor said in a clinton news article:
"in the general fund budget, we have no large capitol outlay items at all. we`re not purchasing any large pieces of equipment or starting up any big new projects." then on sept. 9 the mayor and council passed " a resolution authorizing and approving the mayor to execute an equiptment lease-purchase agreement with regions equiptment finance corp.for the purpose of lease-purchasing one(1)2009 1500 gpm fire apparatus (pumper)truck for fire dept."
what is this? i guess a "lease-purchase" through a finance corporation is not really a "purchase". depends on what the meaning of "is" is. | 9/21/2009 6:16:13 AM |
| | about lakeside | lakeside always displays his ignorance, writer. his is not the ignorance of stupidity, but the blind, head in the sand ignorance of the blase un-sophisticate. always vote the same power base in. anything they want to do, they are our leaders mentality. "if you don`t like it here, leave" says it better than any of his writings. you cannot explain anything to him, for you are always in the wrong. you cannot point out the sins of the leaders, because that makes you a "naysayer". he and his kind are the backbone of rosemarys support. i long ago stopped reading his postings or trying to explain anything to him. i suggest you do the same. | 9/21/2009 6:08:35 AM |
| | | debt is debt lakeside. the goal might be noble but you don`t grow an already heavily laden debt load while in the throes of double digit unemployment, the loss of 280 local jobs and the worst economic downtown since the great depression. your homerism betrays your ignorance. | 9/20/2009 8:36:39 PM |
| lakeside res | | "and i would love for all rosemary supporters to move to hades."
if this were to happen the only left in clinton would be a handful of democrats, a few rednecks, and a couple of old codgers. | 9/18/2009 11:47:44 AM |
| lakeside res | | "mayor debt just locked city taxpayers into a new $1.9 *million* dollar 20-year loan. the balloon bond bimbo sure loves indebtedness.".....i knew someone would make a crack about this loan. why not tell everyone what is for. it`s to improve our waste water plant making it more green and efficient. it might even allow the city to sell recycled waste to pay for part of the loan. your beloved city of ridgeland that has been mentioned on here lately has taken out a loan for their sewer system also. the library was a bone headed play by the city, but the money spent on the waste water deal is well spent. | 9/18/2009 11:44:33 AM |
| | | i`m glad i`m not the .5 | 9/18/2009 8:51:06 AM |
| | | from the clinton news: "as part of its budget-tightening, the district over the summer did not fill 4.5 open teaching positions; salaries are a school district`s greatest expense. those positions included a physical education teacher at each of clinton high and clinton junior high.the district also made the decision to let the same person teach french at both sumner hill and clinton high, and decided not to fill a part-time opening for a child-care teacher at the clinton career complex and part-time social studies and computer discovery openings at clinton junior high." perhaps the school board should not have spent $1.9 million dollars on "updating" the baseball field! | 9/17/2009 3:23:45 PM |

| | | i don`t buy in bolton. i buy in ridgeland, just like everybody else in clinton. rosemary gets enough from me through her high taxes. i sure am not going to give her more by shopping in clinton. | 9/14/2009 2:40:33 PM |
| | | its because you no longer buy in clinton. all that sales tax you are sending to bolton. sad | 9/14/2009 1:48:36 PM |
| | some reasons clintons taxes are high | our property taxes are high because rosemary is not resposible with our tax dollars and doesn`t know when to stop spending.she and her board has spent us into a $26 million dollar hole and the debt hole keeps getting deeper and deeper.shrinking tax revenue and ballooning bond note payments with high taxes are a huge reason clinton isn`t growing.who wants to move into an area with the 3rd highest property taxes in the tricounty area?no one | 9/13/2009 6:34:01 PM |

| | from todays clinton news | the mayor said today "in the general fund budget, we have no large capitol outlay items at all. we`re not purchasing any large pieces of equipment or starting up any big new projects."
looks as if the promised road improvements, new fire stations, and new waterlines are off the table. but we still have all those bonds to pay off. | 9/3/2009 2:19:14 PM |
| | lakeside is right. not just fire trucks needed... | it would be great to see the city supplied with the new fire equipment and stations, but don´t forget that there are over 40 miles of newly annexed roads that will require water lines and fire hydrants. where is the money going to come from for that? i would really have liked for the new library to have been built for 2 million and the remaining six million go to fire and police protection, but it is too late now. | 9/3/2009 1:59:57 PM |
| lakeside res | fire truck | i agree totally on the fire station situation. we do need at least one more station and probably two to cover the area clinton now has. vicksburg has 7 stations with plans for an 8th and ridgeland has 4. my alderman stated during the campaign last spring that a new fire station was in the works. this obviously isn`t the case at least for the next year`s budget. the mayor usually comes around to our neighborhood gathering and i do plan to ask her about the fire department as well as more new cars for the police department. even though they have gotten new car recently they still have some old units on the road. | 9/1/2009 10:57:12 AM |
| | from the clinton news | the mayor said, ¨a retail community that presents limited opportunities for sales tax revenue and a flat market in new home construction are driving stagnant sales tax collections¨.
translation: clinton does not have a retail community big enough to support the debt that city hall has incurred. also, no one is buying homes in clinton, so there will be no foreseeable growth in city revenues.
funny, this was being said during the annexation battle, but anyone who said it was called a ¨naysayer¨. now the mayor is admitting it in print. | 9/1/2009 9:04:52 AM |
| | new fire truck?? | as reported in the clinton news during the annexation, the then current fire chief of clinton said that two new fire stations would have to be built, equipped and manned for clinton to retain its favorible fire rating. this has not been done. in fact, the city has no plans to do this. it does not have any money to do anything. buying just one fire truck has thrown the budget into turmoil. so stand by for your insurance rates to rise, even as your home equity falls. | 9/1/2009 8:24:06 AM |
| | this on national news today: | perhaps it is time for clinton to get out of all the municipal ¨clubs¨ it belongs to.
new york (cnnmoney.com) -- more than nine out of 10 cities are slashing spending this year as the recession wreaks havoc on their sales and income tax revenue, a new study found. meanwhile, officials are also raising taxes and fees, as well as tapping city coffers. some 45% of cities have increased fees for services, while 25% have upped property taxes. more than one in four have added fees. sales tax revenues are expected to decline 3.8% in 2009 as consumers rein in spending, while income tax receipts are projected to fall 1.3% as unemployment takes its toll, the survey found. | 9/1/2009 8:11:07 AM |
| lakeside res | i dare you | no use talking to a person who doesn`t know how to read.there is a million dollars less this year because people aren`t spending.no spending,no tax revenue duh.how hard is that for you to understand?you must be rosemary. ..................i dare you to copy and paste the full article to this board and show me where it says the whole million dollar shortfall is due to taxes. you can`t because that is not what it says. quit posting half truths out here for someone that may be thinking about moving to clinton to see. it`s like you want to drag the city where you live through the mud just to get your way. | 8/31/2009 9:25:45 PM |
| lakeside res | sales tax | the story in the clinton news does not say a word about a $1,000,000.00 short fall in sales tax receipts. it states the budget may be a $1,000,000.00 less next year in part due to a new fire truck being bought this year and street improvements that were done. it does say that tax revenue is stagnant and blames it on the economy just like every other city that has a tight budget this year. while i do have concern about a shortfall in the budget it is "not" because the city lost $1,000,000.00 in sales taxes. in fact up until this year the city had modest gains in sales tax receipts every year since about 2001. if you don`t believe me then look it up. i know things are not as you wish in clinton, but don`t go around spreading things that just aren`t true. maybe that`s why you post half truths on this board because if you said them in public you would be laughed out the door. | 8/31/2009 9:18:02 PM |
| | | you said the city lost a million in sales tax revenue. i guess we`ll see when the real budget comes out. but thats not what the paper said. | 8/31/2009 6:28:58 PM |
| | you cann`t read | no use talking to a person who doesn`t know how to read.there is a million dollars less this year because people aren`t spending.no spending,no tax revenue duh.how hard is that for you to understand?you must be rosemary. | 8/31/2009 4:47:44 PM |
| | the article you cite.. | quote....."we are expecting our revenues to remain about the same" ...and the article says the reason this years budget is smaller is because they are not budgeting for large capital items, like the pumper truck they bought last year. its funny how somebody can twist a statement that says taxes will be flat and taxes will be at the same level as last year into we lost a million in sales tax revenue. | 8/31/2009 7:02:51 AM |
| | | no, there was not a $1 million shortfall in sales tax. you just made that up | 8/31/2009 6:57:28 AM |
| | read the clinton news | if you read the article titled"city plans budget with no tax hike".the article says the city has a short fall of a million dollars in sales tax revenue and franchise fees ect.the city will have to cut back because of it.it went from 14.5 million to 13.5 million. | 8/30/2009 5:19:36 PM |
| | | um, i think you made up that comment about losing a million in sales tax. where did they lose it? | 8/28/2009 9:04:48 PM |
| | loss of revenue | the city has lost 1 million in sales tax revenue this past year?does rosemary know what the tax revenue will be the next year?she seems to think she knows.she has been touting that sales tax revenue has been up?what if next years sales tax revenue is even less than this years?will she be able to pay off those mounting balloon note bonds and still be able to take care of the cities needs without raising taxes.i don`t think so.thanks rosemary, jahu, tony greer, tony hisaw, mike morgan for getting us more in debt.thanks for adding to the hardships of most in clinton.thanks for doubling the size of clinton with all that farm land you cann`t take care of as well as what you allready have.thanks for the greed in the name of progress.thanks for throwing our tax dollars away to all those petty clubs and assoc.and the mississippi municipal league dues.thanks for squandering all our tax dollars going to all those luxury hotels and casinos for(meetings wink, wink).thanks for hiring a useless part time city attorney that milks the city funds for all they have.yes, rosemary and crew you are the best.yes, you are progressive conservatives without a doubt. | 8/28/2009 4:50:00 PM |

i see that there are quite a few things our city pays for that don`t get printed in the clinton news. why aren`t these items getting printed in the paper?

| | amen to the last post. | i am glad to see someone other than me post the truth about the annexation. actually it was a theft, done quietly, in the dark behind the back of those that were being robbed. i for one, have nothing to do anymore with the d**ned city. i buy nothing there anymore, i do not go there anymore. as far as using city services without paying taxes, that is bs. we all paid sales tax when we shopped there. that is tax enough. we did not get police service, nor did we get any fire protection, so all we used of the citys blessed provenance were the streets which were built and paid for by the gas taxes we pay the state. d**n the city of clinton, and the crooks who run it. | 8/18/2009 7:22:25 PM |
| | 2 cents | school taxes were being paid for way before being annexed.shoping only brings more taxes into the city, that pays for the roads.most that live in the annexed area have there own parks and recreation.they don`t need the cities facilities nor do they want to use them.the only reason they use them now is because they are being forced to pay high taxes to pay for all the things they don`t need or want.take them out of the city and most of them wouldn`t be heard from again.that`s all they want is to be left alone and away from rosemarys dictatorship.most don`t buy in clinton anymore and has caused animosity between friends that paticipate in city functions.only some of those in southern oaks wanted to be in the city.most everyone else didn`t want to be in the city.it was rosemary`s and her boards greed that took the opotunity to take in 17 square miles of farm land with no obligation to those they took in.thats what they are being judged on.there inability to be effective, fiscally responsible leaders and greed. | 8/14/2009 3:55:29 PM |
| | | all the people out on the north side of town that got annexed, they should be able to come into town and drop kids off at school and dine out and go to the library and play tennis at the parks and scream about the need to widen pinehaven so they can get here quicker, and do so with the protection of the best police and fire depts in the state.....but not pay any taxes for any of it. | 8/13/2009 5:51:30 PM |
| | laws | there were a good many lawmakers that put out bills last legislative session that delt with public money not being used to fund private lobbying firms.david myers would not let them out to be discussed in committee meetings because he would not have committee meetings scheduled and the ones he did manage to schedule he didn`t show up for,so nothing was discussed.all legislation that legislated municipalities he did the same.most of the bills in his committee delt with municipal abuses all over the state.most all started with rosemary when she set the precident for doubling the size of a municipality with farm land and not providing services to those they annexed.other municipalities followed her example and saw a way to subsidise there budgets (free money)without obligation to those they annexed.that made alot of people angry but, they had david myers to run interference for them in the ligislature.there is alot more to this story just get involved.learn and study what is going on in this state.it`s not just a republican or democratic issue, they are constitutional issues.both sides are twisting the constitution around to suit themselves and wants.get involved it`s your freedom too. | 8/12/2009 8:50:40 PM |
| | sad but true | i wish that were true, but there is no law that says he cann`t be an alderman/select man,or legislator and be a member of a lobbying group.that is part of the problem with our lawmakers in this state.special interest groups are killing the average persons voice.lawmakers no longer listen to individuals.

| | | if mr myers was a selectman (alderman) and a legislator at the same time, then he would have to resign. he was likely associated with the mml when he was a selectman. once he resigned as a selectman, there would be no need to remain associated with mml. | 8/9/2009 5:49:02 PM |
| | | no doubt the balloon bond bimbo`s legacy will be leaving the taxpayers that remain with a huge debt load. | 8/9/2009 5:40:25 PM |
| | you can`t blame lakeside! | hey, lay off lakeside! he has only been in this city for ten years and doesn`t remember the pre-rosemary days of low crime, low taxes, high growth rates and high home values. he doesn`t understand how this woman has divided this city and driven it into debt that will take generations to repay. when i found out that the delphi plant is for sale for less than the city is spending on the quisenberry library; the foolishness of it all was brought home to me. | 8/9/2009 4:29:38 PM |
| | lakeside and mml | lakeside and the mml are two very good examples of what is wrong with this city. a crooked self serving city hall and citizens that are blind to the truth and quick to defend the status quo. by the way lakeside, there are a lot more than 20 people contributing to this board. i do believe that you are posting on here more than any other one poster, and your complaints about this website are antiquated and boring. you keep saying "if you dont like it, leave (or run for mayor)" and such as that. if you don`t like this website, leave, or start your own. | 8/9/2009 4:23:30 PM |
| | | you said it,they have to be elected into those positions.just because he wasn`t on the list of elected officials at this time, his chances of being elected the next time around are very great. | 8/9/2009 2:36:02 PM |
| | david myers/mml | i thought i would try to look up some of these claims myself and you do need to have a password and a userid to access the main websight.i also did a google search and had come up with some articles in the past year or so that the justice department handed down some kind of ruling stating that rep.david myers could not be in two elected offices one legislating the other at the same time and at the time he was also a member of the mississippi municipal league.he was a selectman of mccomb and a state representative.he had to pick one and mccomb had a special election.he no longer has that he is a member of the mml on his state web page.if there is another then i didn`t have anymore time to spend on it.it took about 2 hours to find that little bit of info about him.i looked through many web sites and it seems as though he isn`t very popular with buisiness people in this state.he does do alot of speaking engagements for the mml.you can go to the mml convention web page and see that they give him a special thanks on there web page as a legislative contact.the convention i think is in the next few weeks.it`s an interesting read. | 8/9/2009 2:28:46 PM |
| | | dude, you said the next in line second highest guy in power is david myers. all i`m saying is their website lists the staff, board and all officers, including incoming president, and there is no david myers listed. the officers are elected in an open elections. so why drag the guy through the mud. | 8/9/2009 10:31:16 AM |
| | lakeside | look much deeper than this web page much deeper.open your eyes and mind to find the truth.get involved lakeside. | 8/9/2009 9:52:27 AM |
| | mml | the mml only lists it`s top officers not all members. | 8/9/2009 9:47:10 AM |
| | mml | the mississippi municipal league doesn`t list it`s members. you have to have a pass word and a log in password that is only given to it`s members to even access that kind of information.they used to make it public knowledge until people started complaining to it`s elected officials that were members and so now only members have access to certain parts of the web page.you need to go to rep.david myers web sight and he states that he is a member of the mml on his web page.if you don`t see it then you aren`t looking hard enough.plus anyone who is involved in mississippi politics knows he is a member of the mml.he`s not hiding the fact.be careful i think the more you look into mississippi politics the more you will be disgusted as to what you will find out if you look hard enough. | 8/9/2009 9:45:02 AM |
| lakeside res | | as i`ve before to sit here an complain on a board that maybe 20 people view is doing no good. if you have such good ideas for clinton then you should have run for mayor. if you think there are so many people that think like then you should have no problem winning the election. ah, but the problem is you may not want people to hear what you have to say unless your hiding behind a keyboard. if that`s not the case then by all means come out in the open and do something about what you think is wrong with clinton. | 8/8/2009 12:23:17 PM |
