| | | i think its morally wrong to make stuff up on a message board just because you lost an election | 7/25/2008 9:36:17 AM |
| | sinners | by whom?those select few in clinton, the elite of clinton?i don`t remember even a public hearing or a vote on this library bond or any other bond for that matter.i do remember an article someone had written in the clinton news asking the mayor at a council meeting to allow the people of clinton the right to vote on the bond issue and she refused to allow the vote and then lied about how much it would cost to conduct a vote in clinton on this issue.seems to me she doesn`t want to allow a vote because in private the people might vote against it.the only fair way to resolve this issue would be to allow a vote.i also remember they tried to force a referendum at one time on another bond issue and the mayor threatened business owners to remove paticians from there buisinesses or face repricusions and they didn`t have enough signitures to force a referendum.i know some of the buisiness owners and they confirmed that fact.by not allowing a vote then that is the same as stealing and that is morally wrong(a sin)because the people were not allowed to a have a voice.those of you that back her and this boards decision to do this without the peoples voice are just as guilty as they are.there is a special place for people like that and it`s not heaven.those who believe stealing is not wrong have no fear of god and those that use there faith to bolster there political standing are equally a sinner.when you no longer fear god then there becomes no consequences. | 7/24/2008 10:12:51 PM |

| | answers not fear | do you not believe in fiscal responsibility?do you not believe that the public should have any input on this library or leave it up to the silent majority as tony greer would have you believe there was?answer my questions or are you afraid rosemary might find out.this library will cost the tax payers much more than 8 million dollars.it`s just a way for an old family in clinton to have there name on a building at our expense.why do you think rosemary wouldn`t allow any public input on this subject?give me some answers.if you don`t answer i guess it would be out of fear of rosemary.what a shame. | 7/22/2008 5:12:20 PM |

| | fiscal resposibility is gone in clinton | do you not believe that this mayor and board have put others in a major financial bind through there wreckless spending habits?do you not think that there are other options without a tax increase?the debt from the parkway will be paid off about the same time the first payment for this new loan will come due and we are still looking at a 3 mill tax increase, why?will we get a tax roleback next year?all we want is some good, honest, fiscally responsible people as mayor and alderman and we don`t have that in clinton.all we have is a mayor that is lining her pockets and the pockets of her friends and 2 realestate people getting rich off realestate deals under the table and a city attny.that is milking us dry and the rest are just spineless yes men who are afraid to say anything because rosemary will have her people call them and harass them.i think the people of clinton deserve better.i think there are other options,do you?do you think all the extras are needed?will you be here when the taxes become so high that one day you may not be able to afford to live in clinton?will you run some where else were the taxes are lower and that may not have as many nice things but is a livable and affordable place to live.while you left your neighbors behind to face your debt that you wanted because you didn`t think of other options that could have made a real difference in someones life insteade of thinking about your own selfish wants at the time.all this mayor and board wants is the 20 acres owned by the quinsberrys and the quinsberry family get there name on a building and the rest of us have to suffer for it.they have land behind the existing library to work with they don`t need that land.greed plays an prominant role in this one. | 7/21/2008 4:36:19 PM |
| | | you should run for mayor/alderman on a platform of "no library" and see where the cards fall. probably the same way they did last time. | 7/21/2008 3:41:14 PM |
| | priorities ??? | hinds county is going to raise property taxes, gas prices are going up,food is going up,clinton city taxes are going up by 3 mill.and possibly more because of the massive debt caused by this mayor and board, entergy is going to raise it`s rates by 28%,clinton water is being raised 6% anually.this massive library project will cost us more than the 8 million dollars.they had bids from 6.5 mill. to 8.5 mill. there was only one bid for the 6.5 mill.2 for around 7.5 mill and 1 for 8.5 mill.the one bid for 6.5 mill is a company known for low bids and are friends of the mayor and some board members that bid low to get the contract and then use change orders once the project has started to run the bill up.that money goes to line someones pocket.none of those quotes included books computers, funiture ect.that would all be extra cost to the tax payers of clinton.nore does it include landscaping, retention pond,walking/bike trail, picknick tables or benches.we don`t need a 25,000 sqr.foot library with all these add ons.we can`t take anymore expenditures.times are hard and the city and those few they catter to need to stop and think of the hardship they are placing on the rest of us.lets work with what we have for now.those that are pushing for this library are wealthy people and are not effected as much by todays high cost of living.sure they may miss a lunch in paris this month live with it.there are some out there that know whom i am talking about.stop this stupid spending spree.you are only making things worse. | 7/20/2008 7:49:04 PM |

| | | i am curious about the decision to spend 650 k on upgrades to the baseball field. the school board has spent a ton of money in recent years on athletics facilities (new football field and new tennis courts--both needed, imo). but now, they decide that the baseball stadium needs a facelift. the baseball stadium is, what? 12 years old? and it already needs a facelift? with all of the problems with the school district--the pathetic state of lovett and sumner hill, for example--they decide to fork out 650 k to redo the already fairly new baseball field? | 7/13/2008 11:16:55 PM |

| | stupidity from the school board. | diesel prices are way up!! boo hoo hoo! the school busses are now more expensive to run than they were last year!! what will we do??!! it will cost us $330,000 in fuel cost versus the $220,000 it cost us last year! i guess we will just have to raise taxes!
oh, by the way, here is $660,000 to "upgrade" the high school baseball field.

| may 19, 2008 | | a 7-year-old breckenridge boy died sunday afternoon after he was apparently attacked by two dogs, according to the stephens county sheriff’s department.
tanner joshua monk was found dead by deputies who arrived at the scene of the attack on county road 415 northwest of breckenridge near hubbard lake, sheriff jim reeves said.
after 4 p.m., a passer-by saw monk lying next to the road with two pit bulls nearby and stopped to check on the child, reeves said. when she left her car, the dogs became aggressive, and she called 9-1-1, he said.
two deputies arrived at the scene, and when the dogs became aggressive toward them, they shot and killed the dogs. | 6/29/2008 12:15:39 PM |

| | | $30 over 20 years is $600 if your house assest at 100k,which most houses don`t in clinton, unless you live in cherry park.most will be paying more than the $30 a year.that could buy alot of books that you could own and if you want you can resell them when your through.this library isn`t worth this amount of a millage increase.this will cause an undue tax burden on the tax payers of clinton.rosemary and crew are affraid to allow for a vote for fear it will be voted down.most everyone i talked to don`t want this library.they say fix the problems with the existing library.the only complaint i have heard was that it had some mold in it and that can be fixed with very little money.the city leaders "if you can call them that"just want the $4 million piece of property on northside drive.i drove past the library multiple time throughout the day and even went in and at any give time of the day there were only about 8-10 people in it and some were employees.this library will be a big waste of money. | 6/19/2008 5:48:51 PM |

| | | we need the library, lets do it right so we arent talking about building another one in 5 years. i`ll gladly pay $2.50 a month more on my house payment, get it done. | 6/16/2008 8:27:50 PM |
| lakeside res | taxes | simply put, your are wrong. my house is in the $100k range and my taxes are no where near the $1k range. they are only about half that amount. yes the library cost too much and yes our taxes or higher than surrounding cities, but you don`t have to make stuff up to get your point across. the only way it could be close to $1k is if you don`t file for homestead exemption.........as for the mills. the 3 mill increase will equal about $30 on a $100k house. it was in the newspaper a while back. | 6/16/2008 5:56:57 PM |
| | theft at it`s most legal form | simply put if your house and property is worth 100k then your tax bill will be about 1k and that is without the 3 mill tax increase.no matter what the definition of 1 mill is,rosemary and her merry band of bandits are robbing us blind in the name of quality of life.i cann`t feed, clothe my children, buy gas,or pay utilities, pay my morgage but,the city has 10 tennis courts and a frisby golf course and comming soon is an 8 million dollar library.enough is enough, most of us hard working people cann`t have any quality of life for having to pay these high taxes.when did government decide that we had to pay for someone elses entertainment? | 6/16/2008 5:01:48 PM |

| | wrong again you do the math | nope, a mill equals $1 per $1,000 of "assessed" value of your house. the assessed value is 10% of the appraised value for residential, and 15% of the appraised value for commercial. so you are only wrong by 1000%. | 6/13/2008 7:23:16 AM |
| | correction | 2 houses burned to the ground on north and south norrel while inside the city.do they feel safer out there?i can tell you not.the fire dept. got lost looking for the burning houses.the williams house on northside dr. burned half in two before the fire dept.got there and it`s across the street from the fire dept.your statement is false.by the way 1 mill.=$1 per $1,000 apraised value of your home or property.you do the math. | 6/12/2008 7:30:13 PM |
| | | the annexed area is much safer now than if was when it was covered by the pocahuantus volunteer fire dept. back then, clinton was legally barred from going out there unless a life was in danger. it will only get better, dont act like everybody out there all of a sudden became at risk because of the annexation. | 6/12/2008 2:57:01 PM |
| lakeside res | taxes | try to spin it however you want to, but taxes aren`t going up $150.00 per year. your numbers are either whacked or just plain made up. i already told you i agree about the library, but you don`t have to make false claims to try and prove a point. as for the fire stations. they should be priority #1 since the city has almost doubled in size with the annexation. i`d be more willing to pay higher taxes for more fire stations than a library right now. last, but not least. i don`t believe the city bares the full cost of putting of lights and gates at rail road crossings. regardless of the reason behind them lights and gates aren`t a bad idea at rail crossings. | 6/12/2008 7:11:08 AM |
| | thank you, "from the web" | thank you for putting it all out there. thank you for showing that clinton is the highest taxed city in central mississippi outside of jackson, and this 3 mill increase will possible make us the highest taxed in the state. however you did not include the probable additional 3 mill increase, and that is just for the library. if clinton is to maintain its current fire rating, two new fire stations will have to be built, manned and equipted. forty miles of line and fire hydrants will have to installed. all this or your home fire insurance bill is going to go through the roof. this is not even considering the recent expense the city incurred by installing crossguards at three rail crossings at the cost of well over two million dollars. the spending is insane here, and our tax bill will be also. | 6/12/2008 5:04:12 AM |

| from the web | 3 mills on $100,000 equals $30 a year | how much are property taxes?
the annual property tax on a $100,000 home in clinton is approximately $950 per year. this figure is based on an assessed value of $10,000 (ten percent of real value) times the millage rate of 124.97 per $1,000 assessed value, less a $300 deduction for homestead exemption. for homeowners over the age of 65, the same $100,000 home would have a property tax of approximately $500, which is based on an assessed value of $4,000 (four percent of real value). for more information, contact the hinds county tax assessor at 601-714-6278. | 6/10/2008 11:03:56 AM |
| | hinds county tax assessor website info..... | on a 100,000 house, the 3 mill increase announced a while back will result in an annual increase of $30, not $150. the monthly tax increase would be $2.50 on a $100,000 house. quit making stuff up | 6/10/2008 11:02:12 AM |
| | | $150 annually is $27 per month? you obviously didnt go to clinton schools. | 6/10/2008 10:42:27 AM |
| | lakeside is right (and wrong) | your taxes went up $10.00. for what? there has been no tax increase. the 3 mill tax increase will cost you over $150.00 when it goes into effect. hasn`t done so yet, even though the city "budgeted" the increase. then it will increase again for another $150 annually. the cost to you will be an extra $27 per month. clinton is already the highest taxed city in central mississippi outside of jackson. we don`t need more taxes, for any reason.
we don`t need an 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 million dollar library (it was going to be five million a year ago), but we do need a 2 or three million dollar one. people who say this are not "against" the library. people who say this are just using common sense. | 6/9/2008 9:27:59 AM |
| lakeside res | taxes | are you willing to pay $150 more a year on your property taxes and maybe it might go up another $150 next year?...c`mon, that`s only possible if you live in the annexed area or own a multi million dollar home. my taxes only went up about $10 or so which i think is too much given the cause. don`t make it look like everyone`s taxes went up that much. i`m all for a new library, but we don`t need borrow $8 million to build it. we need wait until the money is there to build or really scale back the plans. i also like the idea of if we are going to spend $8 million let it be on a new school. sumner hill, lovett, and even cjhs are getting old. | 6/9/2008 8:13:11 AM |
| | | wouldnt 3 libraries require 3 times the headcount? seems mighty expensive. i support the effort on the new library. | 6/9/2008 5:11:17 AM |
| | food for thought | if it`s such a dumb idea than why do most municipalities have more than 1 library?they keep small libraries in place to service people in those neighborhoods and also to keep cost affordable so the people in the municipality don`t have such a huge debt.who`s to say that a 3 mill increase is not enough to cover the debt and the next budget year they decide to up it another 3 mills so on and so on?smaller branches make it more affordable for the general public and doesn`t place a long term burden on the people.are you willing to pay $150 more a year on your property taxes and maybe it might go up another $150 next year?with that much money you could just order that book and you own it and a 100 more at amazon.com or some other online book club.times are tough for everyone, gas, food, energy take up the bulk of my paycheck.there`s not much else left and now you have rosemary on her crew going into your pocket anytime they want because of there reckless spending habbits.i will give you an example of reckless spending $2475.31 to mississippi municipal league plus expenses for the mayor and city officials to attend the mml annual convention to be held june 22,2008 through june 26,2008 in biloxi,ms(various)they will be at the beu rivage hotel and casino mostly playing golf and dining on your dime while they find new ways to tax you.the mississippi municipal league is a private lobbing firm made up of the mayor and alderman of the state of mississippi funded by your tax dollars and this is just one of many payments to the mississippi municipal league over the course of a year.they are throwing your hard earned money down the drain and living large while we all struggle to make ends meet.is this what you want to support?simple economics says if you have less money in your pocket the less your going to spend and you will hold on to your money.that has a huge trickle down effect on the economy as a whole.business can not survive without your money no business no economy,no economic growth period.the city needs to live within it`s means as we all do.one more example is property can you afford to pay more on your property taxes?rising property taxes can also contribute to home forclosures.think about the whole picture and others. | 6/8/2008 4:19:41 PM |
| | | let`s spend $8 million on a new school (about the cost of clinton park). many children and the whole community would benefit from an upgraded school vs a library (that will cost around $1 million with $7 million mysteriously vanishing). | 6/6/2008 7:19:02 PM |
| | | oh, that makes sense. drive to 3 libraries to find the book you need. | 6/6/2008 4:06:01 PM |
| | library | i talk to alot of people in clinton and many more than 10 don`t agree that we need that lavish a library.why not have several small branches that are close to neighborhoods.why do we need an over 25 thousand square foot library.not too many people use the one we have.they mostly use it as an alternative to the video store.videos at the library are only a dollar to rent.so i agree we don`t need that big of a library it will be used for all these other little groups as a meeting hall,as well as a monument to the mayor.those smaller branches could be built without a 3 mill tax increase.what you don`t know is that they could raise your millage rate again next year to further cover the cost of the library.do you want to continue to cover this mayor and boards spiraling debt many years from now?can we afford it now?i know i cann`t and so do many others.times are tough and the city needs to live within it`s means as we do. | 6/6/2008 4:02:46 PM |

| | misrepresentati on by lakeside | no, lakeside, i can`t "have it both ways." i have never wanted it "both ways". you make a supposition of what i would do and then claim i want it "both ways." lets get a few facts straight about me. i don`t like the city wasting money on excessive salaries for the mayor and the city attorney. i dont like to see the city waste money on bond issues to promote building of city "feel good" projects like the welcome center and more and more and more "parks", holding "charettes" and establishing "quiet zones". i don`t like to see city workers from the public works department planting flowers when they should be patching potholes. i don`t like our police and fire departments being the lowest paid in central mississippi. i don`t like city government telling people how to fix their yards, manage their parking, paint their houses and what breed of dogs they can and can`t own. i can`t stand to be lied to by public officials about a library. what i do like is the for a city to at least try to save our heritage, keep us safe from crime, patch our roads, teach our children. nothing else. | 6/3/2008 6:30:53 AM |

to the city of clinton, and the police department. i didn`t mean for this picture to get out. i wasn`t thinking when i posted it on the clarion ledger. i was trying to make a point about motorist endangering themselves at railroad crossing. the people of clinton, mississippi, the city of clinton, and the police department, please forgive me. the people are lucky to police department that is pro-active in fighting crime and protecting the city.
